Have your say at information day

27th March 2007 Print
Devonport people can discover the next chapter of redevelopment of the old South Yard stores enclave at a special community information day being held on Thursday, March 29th.

As well as the chance to see detailed draft plans for the next zones of development by Redrow Homes, the event will also give local people the chance to say how they would like to be consulted about further phases of regeneration, not just within Redrow’s scheme - known as Vision - but the whole of the Devonport area.

Organised by Redrow in partnership with Devonport Regeneration Community Partnership, Devon and Cornwall Housing Association, Sovereign Housing Association and Plymouth City Council, all of whom will be taking part, the ‘drop-in’ style event will take place between 2pm and 8pm at Redrow’s ‘Insight into Vision’ information centre, on Chapel Street, Devonport.

Anne Tillett, community liaison officer for Redrow, says: “Everyone in the Devonport neighbourhood has been invited to discover the story behind the project, the plans for the future of the site and the project timetable, as well as how they can be involved in the planning process.

“It will also be a chance for members of the community to view the detailed plans for the next phases of development before they are submitted for planning permission. These will include elements of residential and commercial development.”

The Vision development will eventually comprise more than 460 new homes, plus a range of employment, retail and mixed use development, including a new police station, offices and a supermarket.

Roger Wills, DRC Partnership resident board member, said: "There is a real sense of change for the better within Devonport and Redrow are playing their part. I'd encourage all residents and retailers to take up this invitation and help shape a significant aspect of Devonport's future" .

Another aspect of Thursday’s community information day will be an opportunity for local people to suggest future names for some of the new roads within the Vision development. Whilst ultimately a decision on road names lies with Plymouth City Council, Redrow is hoping to reinstate the old names for existing roads and, with local help, will suggest new names for roads which are being created.

The community information day takes place between 2pm and 8pm on Thursday, March 29th at the Vision information centre. Transport can be arranged for the elderly or infirm by contacting Anne Tillett on 01392 354550.
