Plymouth’s perfect vision

16th May 2007 Print
Plymouth’s perfect vision The party spirit was alive and well in Plymouth as Redrow’s Vision at Devonport development threw open its doors to welcome visitors to its sales launch – and what a day it was!

Visitors were greeted by an array of fantastic entertainers – from ‘Cosmo the clown’ to face painters, caricaturists, a live jazz band and balloon modellers – it was a fun day for all the family.

Pat Kimber, area sales manager at Redrow Homes (South West) said: “The Vision at Devonport launch day was a brilliant success – visitors had a great time, and were able to find out all about the fantastic homes being built – with or without a painted face!

“Of the properties we had on release, over half were reserved and we anticipate it won’t be long before more properties vanish too. The fun, relaxed atmosphere on the launch day really epitomised the community spirit that Devonport will create, and we were happy to welcome so many interested visitors.”

The transformation at the former South Yard stores enclave - which once formed part of the town centre until it was requisitioned by the MoD shortly after the Second World War - is going strong, and has attracted a lot of interest from families, young professionals and downsizers alike.

As well as more than 460 new one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom homes, the Vision scheme will also include a range of employment, retail and mixed use development, including a new police station, offices and a supermarket.

The designs of the properties at Vision will accentuate and complement the proportions and broad character of surrounding architectural heritage and will help to create a diverse and interesting environment with a perfect balance between traditional and contemporary styles.

The proposals for the wider site seek to deliver a blended appearance from the Georgian architecture of neighbouring Cumberland Street to the modern feel of another new development in the area, Gun Wharf.

A variety of materials, including brick, render, glass and timber, add aesthetic interest across the development and ensure that locally distinctive features are properly reflected. Features of the pre-war architecture in the surrounding areas have also been used as a point of reference, including the use of rendered facades with expressed window features, protruding bays and emphasised front doors.

Currently available at Vision are one-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom properties and also elegant four-bedroom townhouses, priced from £110,995, £175,995 and £174,995 respectively. The first properties will be ready to move into in spring 2008.

As well as the amenities of Devonport the development is also close to the coastal city of Plymouth which enjoys views of the surrounding coast and Devonshire countryside. Plymouth offers a wide range of pubs, restaurants and leisure facilities, as well as schools, doctors and shops.
