Housing boost could be on its way for Newton Abbot
The housing market in Newton Abbot could get a boost with the announcement that developer Redrow is planning to build in the bustling Devon town. The award-winning house builder has bought a 5.3 acre site at Whitehill Cross from WBB Minerals Ltd.
Outline planning permission has already been granted for the 116-home Jetty Marsh development including 19 properties for social housing.
Redrow is aiming to provide a range of housing at the development, which is less than a mile from the town centre, for people on all stages of the property ladder including two, three and four-bedroom houses and apartments.
Subject to detailed planning consent, work should start on the site, which will incorporate trees and mature hedges, in mid-September and the aim is to have the first property completed by February next year.
Access to the site would be from a newly constructed road, which will also serve the new community hospital currently being built to replace the existing Victorian and Edwardian buildings.
Redrow's land director Mark Harding said: "We are delighted to have been able to acquire such a desirable site in our prime market area within our expanding region.
"We have targeted Teignbridge for several years now and the reward is 116 houses in this fabulous location."
Newton Abbot is a lively town, straddling the River Teign, in the district of Teignbridge, Devon, and is close to Dartmoor National Park and the attractive beaches at Dawlish, Teignmouth and Torquay.
The development at Jetty Marsh is a perfect addition to Redrow's growing portfolio in the West Country, which includes a striking collection of waterside apartments in Barnstaple, Redrow @ Rolle Quay; stylish two, three and four-bedroom homes at Winkleigh Cross, in the village of Winkleigh; one and two-bedroom apartments at Treverbyn, Plympton; two, three and four-bedroom homes at Tiddy Brook Meadows on the outskirts of Tavistock and Vision @ Devonport, a development of apartments and homes close to Plymouth city centre. These schemes are being developed by Redrow Homes (South West), which has an office in Exeter, and is a subsidiary of Redrow plc, which builds circa 5,000 homes across the UK each year.
