An uplifting new home

Finding a new home was a load off forklift truck driver Dave Gummer’s mind. His new property in Devonport, near Plymouth, will spare Dave a 140-mile round trip commuting to his job for home builder Redrow.

Now Dave, 56, will help build his new home for his employers at their multi-million pound Vision scheme in the town, where he has bought a one-bedroom apartment.

And the construction worker is so convinced he has found the right home, he is planning to help his son Robert, 22, buy one too.

Said Dave: “Vision is going to be spectacular. It is really appealing as a home and an investment. The whole development is like a phoenix rising out of the ashes and I can’t wait to move in early next year.

“I think it will be great for Robert to get on the housing ladder too.”

Dave is currently working for the company at its Treverbyn development in Plympton, near Plymouth but he is just about to begin work at Vision transporting building materials.

Andrea Nippe, area sales manager for Redrow, said: “Buying a home at Vision is a wise investment for Dave, not only does he completely eliminate any commuting time, but I am sure it will turn out to be a shrewd investment thanks to the major regeneration that is taking place in the area.”

A mix of new one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom homes are on offer at Vision, which is close to Plymouth city centre and will eventually feature more than 450 new homes. Current prices are from £180,995 for a three-bedroom end terrace house.

Redrow’s mixed-use scheme is bringing new life to an area of Devonport that was devastated by World War II bombings and then annexed by the MoD for over 50 years. Redrow is working closely with stakeholders including national regeneration agency, English Partnerships, Devonport Regeneration Community Partnership and Plymouth City Council to bring about the transformation.
