Devonport close to the heart of new community liaison officer Redrow’s new community liaison officer in Devonport is committed to keeping local people involved with the company’s Vision development as it progresses.

Experienced sales consultant Clare Taylor has switched jobs to take on a more community focused role and is looking forward to working with local residents, the local authority, housing associations and community groups to keep them informed of the scheme’s progress in rejuvenating the former MoD South Yard Enclave.

Since joining the Redrow team in November 2006, Clare, 34, has been reacquainting herself with the Devonport area, which is close to where she grew up in Torpoint while her dad worked at the nearby dock yard.

Clare, who now lives in Kingsteignton, previously worked for Wainhomes for eight-and-a-half years.

She said: “I lived in the area for 17 years so I know Devonport pretty well and I’ve really seen it change, especially in the last five years. The place is evolving and there has been an influx of money into the area like never before. You can see it’s up and coming and will be a really great place to live.

“I’m just excited to have been part of the ‘Vision’ project from the start and to have the opportunity to see it through to the end. I’m looking forward to becoming more involved with the community and getting to know everybody. We value our good relationship with local people and it is important that they are kept well informed about the scheme.

“2008 is going to be a big year for ‘Vision’, with the first homes being completed and the first residents moving in. Those milestones will really underline the progress that has been made here.”

Since being chosen as the preferred developer by English Partnerships, Redrow has engaged with the local community on a regular basis, including events to mark the demolition of the three-metre high security wall that once surrounded the site, the opening of the information centre, an exhibition of Devonport past, present and future, a series of special information days, and a painting competition for local school children with winning entries displayed on the hoardings. It has also supported local events such as the Friends of Devonport Park ‘Community Spirit’ event last summer.

Hannah Newnes, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South West), said: “We place great importance on our relationship with the local community in Devonport and value their input into the ‘Vision’ scheme. We are keen to maintain our rapport with local people through our continued involvement with local schools, colleges and community groups, and Clare is here to provide that all important point of contact for us.”

Vision is an award-winning regeneration project that is changing the face of the former South Yard enclave and bringing new life to Devonport. It will eventually feature around 460 one and two-bedroom apartments, two, three and four-bedroom houses, including a high proportion of affordable housing, plus a range of employment and retail outlets. The first properties are being sold ‘off-plan’ and are expected to be ready for occupation in the spring.

Properties currently available are priced from £174,995 for a beautiful three-storey four-bedroom townhouse.
