Site manager teaches kids site safety

Ray said: “The pupils were so well behaved and were really interested in what I had to say. As we’re building so close to the school we wanted to ensure the pupils knew the site wasn’t a playground and was a dangerous place.”
Midas Homes is building 23 affordable homes for Teignbridge District Council and Tor Homes off Mill Lane in Teignmouth, adjacent to Inverteign Primary School.
Police Community Support Officer, Saul Bunce who covers West Teignmouth said: “Ray was quick to make contact with the Neighbourhood Team to discuss carrying out a visit at Inverteign School to highlight the dangers that lay within building sites. We spoke to Mr Clifford, the Headteacher at Inverteign School, who was more than happy to assist in facilitating an assembly and allowing a site visit by the children.
“This has been great partnership, working at an early stage as a preventative measure to ensure that the community stays safe and are fully educated regarding the dangers on building sites. The site is secured every evening and checks will be carried out by passing police patrols.”
Headteacher of Inverteign Primary School, David Clifford added: “We felt it was very important for the children to know about the dangers of playing on building sites and are very grateful to Ray for his visit. We hope to work together in the future as the building work progresses.”
The pupils are now designing their ideal home in a colouring competition, where they could win some book tokens.
