Downsize in style at Bydewell Grange

Jean and Peter Watson Having lived for 18 years in a detached house in Great Amwell, near Hertford, Peter and Jean Watson, both in their 70s, decided that the time had come for them to downsize to a home that would require much less maintenance.

As it was an important move for them, they didn’t rush into anything, preferring to wait until they found the perfect property. Last September, they discovered Fairview New Homes’ Bydewell Grange in Hertford; the home of their dreams!

“We decided to downsize to a new apartment because we no longer needed so much space and really wanted to have a home without stairs. We didn’t want to rush into anything and are really glad that we chose Bydewell Grange, which is close to the shops and the amenities” says Peter.

Bydewell Grange is a beautiful gated development of 18 luxurious two and three bedroom apartments and individually-named five bedroom houses, located in a mature residential setting adjacent to managed woodland in Mangrove Road. As Peter and Jean have discovered, the apartments are ideal for downsizers; offering excellent security, undercroft parking and between 963 square feet and 1688 square feet of generously proportioned living space which is large enough to accommodate large pieces of furniture.

Demonstrating a blend of classic architecture and contemporary style in keeping with the other homes at the development, the apartment building has a dynamic form and follows the undulating contours of the wooded copse. All the apartments have generous terraces to enjoy the setting, whilst the duplexes have tall feature windows set within the gable apexes which allow natural light to flood inside.

As one would expect, the specification of each apartment is comprehensive and luxurious. The Offspec kitchens include Avant Ivory cabinets, granite work surfaces and the full complement of stainless steel and integrated appliances. All bathrooms have white sanitaryware with chrome fittings and the master en suite also features a vanity unit. All ‘wet’ rooms have ceramic flooring, whilst the living and dining areas feature oak strip wood flooring.

“Our new apartment is very spacious and we can’t wait to sit in the living room which is very light and airy, with a large bay window,” continues Peter. “We also love the fact that the Bydewell Grange is set on a hill top which enables us to enjoy views of the green open space which surrounds the development. The fact that the development is gated also gives us a sense of security and definitely creates a sense of community and affluence.”

The Watsons also like the fact that, although the development is adjacent to woodland and green space, it provides easy access to the M25 and to Stansted airport via the A120, good rail links from Hertford North and Hertford East stations and excellent local bus services.

“This development is very convenient for people of our age in terms of accessibility as we do not need to rely on a car to get about. We can use our bus passes to get to Harlow, Royston and even Heathrow with ease and it only takes ten minutes for us to walk into Hertford,” adds Peter. “We would recommend buying from Fairview New Homes. The sales team has been extremely helpful since we first visited the site and we are very impressed that Fairview New Homes provides two years of customer service, should we need it.”
