Terrific townhouses

However, the modern townhouse is a very different animal to its historic counterpart.

Older townhouses tended to have smaller rooms at the top to accommodate the maid and the nursery. Nowadays you are more likely to discover a self contained suite which includes bedroom, dressing room and ensuite shower room occupying the whole of the top floor.

“The layout of the modern townhouse makes them a great choice for families,” says Lisa Shiell, Marketing Manager for Connells Estate Agents which is selling three storey properties at Beaufort Gardens, Stevenage on behalf of Persimmon Homes Thames Valley.

“You can either let teenagers have the run of the top floor where they can fully enjoy the extra space, invite their friends along and play their music without disturbing the rest of the family who may be watching TV in the lounge. Or alternatively, many couples make the top floor suite their private sanctuary where they can relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of the typical family home.”

Modern town houses are designed with modern lifestyles in mind, offering the flexibility to cope with the changes that take place as a family grows.

Spreading the living space across three storeys enables home owners to better cater for the demands of young children, through to teenagers, elderly relatives and guests, ensuring everyone has their own space and privacy.

Unlike their older counterparts where the kitchens tended to be small and separate, the townhouses at Beaufort Gardens have large open plan kitchen/dining areas designed to encourage family dining and entertaining. And whereas in the past family entertainment might have centred around the piano in the drawing room, nowadays there are digital TV points in the lounge and all bedrooms.

Elaine Stratford, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes, commented: “Traditional room labels really are a thing of the past. These homes are designed with one thing in mind – to allow each customer to enjoy their individuality. These are flexible, well thought out homes with something for pretty much everyone. We can’t recommend them enough.”

Beaufort Gardens is situated a few minutes walk away from the train station and is also very convenient for the A1 (M). The three bedroom townhouses, which are priced from £284,950, front onto an area of open space and have separate single garages.
