energy-assessors.com: regulation of Domestic Energy Assessors
Stephen Callaghan, Director of energy-assessors.com, responds to concerns over the regulation of Domestic Energy Assessors: “The new Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) industry is strictly regulated by the Government offering the consumer the highest degree of confidence as hundreds of Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) begin to carry out EPCs from June 1st.“All DEAs are required to pass an energy assessor qualification, using National Occupational Standards approved by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, and be accredited by one of the Government approved certification schemes, of which five have now been approved. Accredited assessors must be fully qualified to undertake energy assessments; be “fit and proper” persons including having a compulsory Criminal Record Bureau check carried out prior to working as a DEA; and have professional indemnity insurance cover for all the work they carry out. They must also abide by stringent codes of conduct. The Communities for Local Government (CLG) will monitor accreditation schemes to ensure they comply with the terms of its approval and deliver compliance with legislation.
“It is imperative that DEAs are exposed to this level of scrutiny and it is fanciful and disgraceful that news reports have appeared to the contrary.
“Energy-assessors.com will also be undertaking its own independent quality assurance checks including monitoring, auditing and accompanied inspections of DEAs to ensure high levels of quality. Consumers will have a redress scheme to deal with any complaints against members via the certification schemes.”
