Horton House Junior Cricket Club is using the money to pay for training and equipment, to support the use of winter nets sessions, provide additional coaching courses for volunteer coaches and to pay for additional professional coaching.
Simon Knibbs, vice chairman for Horton House Junior Cricket Team, said: “We are extremely grateful to Redrow, who have donated money to support the club. We have in excess of 120 young people who are all able to enjoy the game of cricket from the age of seven up to 17 in our junior section.
“Donations like this enable us to continue to provide the training for our coaches and equipment necessary to make sure that every child that plays for the club receives the very best in tuition and equipment. Thanks to companies like Redrow we can continue to provide children of all ages with the experience of what is a great team game, and I would personally like to thank them for their support.”
The club runs four senior sides and six junior sides, with coaching from qualified coaches all year round. Games are played at Horton House Sports Club, one of Northamptonshire’s oldest clubs, next year will see the celebration of Horton’s centenary year.
Simon continued: “At junior level, the club has a very proud tradition, consistently winning local trophies at all levels. We accept junior members from the age of seven, and following the success of England in the Ashes 18 months ago, the club had a resurgence in its junior members playing cricket at all age groups.”
Heather Jackson, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South Midlands), said: “Wherever possible we like to support the community in those areas in which we work or build. We also have a history of supporting education and sport across the country, so to help the cricket team out was a natural extension of that. Horton is a great place and we’re really proud to be sponsoring the junior teams and helping them to enjoy this great sport.”
Redrow nationally is one of a small number of businesses with a Business in the Community ‘PerCent Standard’, which the company has retained for the last four years. The voluntary benchmark recognises companies that give at least 1% of their pre-tax profits back to the community by way of cash donations, sponsorship, employee time or gifts in kind.
Redrow Homes (South Midlands) has just completed schemes in Daventry and Rushden and has on-going developments in Corby, Desborough and Leighton Buzzard. There are also plans for new apartments in Bletchley.
