School kids receive lesson in building site safety

Janet outlined the dangers of playing on or around building sites, even when they are quiet, reminding children that large vehicles can have difficulty seeing small children, that scaffolding, bricks and pipes can collapse causing injury, and that sand can hide sharp metal and glass.
Children also met the leading house-builder’s site safety characters – George Wimpey and Sandi Pitt – and high-visibility vests were given to the youngest children, so to improve their safety when out on school trips or when travelling to and from school.
Janet says: "I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to speak to local children about what we’re doing at The Copse, and to highlight the dangers associated with playing near any construction site.
“The construction of Mawsley Village has been ongoing for some time, and our children are very interested in the changes they see around them. However, with the long summer holidays ahead of us, it would be easy for children to see the development as a playground.”
Mawsley is a brand new village development located in open countryside, combining traditional design with modern comfort. Properties are constructed largely from local stone laid by craftsmen using time-honoured methods, with chimneys, steeply pitched roofs and slate tiles.
A range of new facilities has been constructed alongside the properties including a community centre, a primary school, a public house, shop and sports field.
Further information on homes is available by visiting The Copse at Mawsley Village, located by following signs from the A43 south-west of Kettering. The development is open Thursday to Monday.
