Dorset development proves hit with soldiers

“We’re located very close to the Bovington Army Camp, which was set up way back in 1916 to train the first tank crews, and both Prince William and Prince Harry have been spotted in local stores,” reports Ray Smith, Barratt Homes’ on-site sales negotiator.
It seems the soldiers are flocking to Purbeck Gate because, in addition to its fabulous location in one of the prettiest parts of the UK, it also offers competitively priced homes.
Shaun (37) and Lisa (36) Bradley are typical of the couples choosing to leave the barracks for a house of their own.
“My husband has been in the army for 22 years and is due to retire in two years’ time,” said Lisa. “We love this area – our two sons go to local schools and I work in one of them - so we were keen to stay here.
“We thought the house prices were very reasonable - it’s not easy to find affordable housing in this part of the country. Other people from the Bovington camp obviously thought the same, as our neighbour is a soldier and there’s another one a couple of doors away. They all wanted to settle in this area because it’s so beautiful.”
Lisa and Shaun bought a three-bedroom terraced home. “It’s a lovely house,” Lisa continued. “We have a through lounge, en-suite to the master bedroom and downstairs cloakroom and we’ve also got a garage, parking space and garden. The site manager has been really wonderful, so we’re very pleased with our purchase.”
Located in the tranquil village of Wool on the isle of Purbeck and just five miles from Lulworth Cove, a local beauty spot, Purbeck Gate offers a selection of two, three, four or five bedroom homes.
“We’ve attracted a wide range of buyers,” Ray continued. “These include single people, investors and local families. We can offer 100 per cent part exchange or an agency selling option, whereby we sell the buyer’s existing property completely free of charge for the full market value.
“We’ve sold all the two-bedroom homes in phase one and two of the development, but we still have some three, four and five-bedroom houses available. The three-bedroom homes are priced at £269,995 and the four and five-bedroom houses are available at prices up to £399,995.”
In addition to Bovington Army Camp and Tank Museum, Purbeck Gate is also close to another local landmark with army connections. The cottage Clouds Hill, just north of Wool, was once used by T E Lawrence, who achieved lasting fame during World War One as “Lawrence of Arabia.”
