Hailsham is property hotspot say developers
One of the country’s largest homebuilders has targeted Hailsham’s property market with a £26 million development, following the success of its last project in the East Sussex town. Redrow Homes says the area’s excellent location and transport connections have proved a magnet for homebuyers. Its last development of more than 30 homes ‘virtually sold themselves’ according to the company’s sales team and now they are hoping to repeat the achievement at their latest site off Battle Road.
The company already has outline planning permission for 146 homes, including two-bedroom apartments, two and three-bedroom terraced homes and townhouses, in addition to four-bedroom detached homes, including the provision of 30% affordable housing.
The 12-acre proposed development will include appealing features for homebuyers, such as a fully equipped children’s play area, a junior football area and an ecology reserve.
Subject to detailed planning consent from Wealdon District Council, Redrow aims to start building on site in early 2008 and will launch sales of the properties shortly after.
The company will also make a financial contribution towards road improvements, household waste recycling and the local library, bus and school services.
Geoff Blake, land director for Basingstoke-based Redrow Homes (Southern), who are currently building at Sovereign Harbour, in Eastbourne and have just completed a scheme at Bexhill-on-Sea, said: “Our Millview development in Hailsham was very popular last year and we are very keen to build on that success by returning to the town.
“This site is ideally positioned and offers a wealth of choice for homebuyers who want a new property, from apartments to family homes. We are also exploring other land interests in the area.”
