Gerald makes his move in Wem

7th May 2009 Print
When Gerald Hughes fancied a change of scenery at home, he was reluctant to give up life in Wem in Shropshire. And so the 53-year-old, who is a programmer for Caterpillar in Shrewsbury, started – and ended – his property search with the brand new George Wimpey homes at the Earls Meadow development – just a few hundred yards from his old front door.

“I’ve lived in a few different locations in this area, but I really like Wem,” says Gerald. “When I went to the Sales Centre at Earls Meadow I received very good advice from Alison, the Sales Executive, who explained the benefits of buying a home off-plan.

“She recommended I take look at one of the showhomes at their sister development, Castleford in Market Drayton, to see what my new house would look like inside and out, and by doing so I got a real feel for the type of new home I could live in.

“I’m moving from a bungalow, which was my mother’s and would have needed quite a bit of work doing to it had I stayed put, but by buying it off-plan I secured my new place for a very good price and I’ve been able to choose some extras inside, such as an upgraded kitchen.”

Gerald, who is divorced and has two grown-up sons, Michael (30) and Christopher (29), received expert help from Alison on choosing his kitchen, flooring and tiling, selecting a fresh, monochrome kitchen, with black tiles and white gloss units, and contemporary birch wood floors in the hall and living areas.

“I’ve really enjoyed choosing the interiors from George Wimpey’s Options range – Alison helped me select a stylish design and has given my home the ‘woman’s touch’ that I wouldn’t have been able to achieve on my own! It’s also great that they have fitted the kitchen and done all the tiling in the kitchen and the bathroom for me. It’s a ready-made home”.

The three-bedroom ‘Witham’ housetype Gerald chose features a spacious kitchen with open-plan living/dining room opening to the south-facing garden, a large reception room, and a cloakroom off the entrance hallway. The landing leads to three well-proportioned bedrooms and bathroom.

Although the ‘Witham’ has sold out at Earls Meadow, customers can still choose from a selection of four-bedroom homes, including the luxury ‘Jesmond’ at the new price of only £249,995, and featuring two generous reception rooms, a fitted kitchen/dining room, an en-suite to the master bedroom in addition to a main bathroom, and a double garage and garden outside.

All new homes at the development enjoy a high standard specification including central heating, double glazing and a fully fitted kitchen with built-in oven, hob and hood, and prices for the four-bedroom designs start at just £234,995.

Sales Executive, Alison is on-hand at Earls Meadow to help would-be homebuyers choose the right home to suit their lifestyles, and to provide details of the range of time and money-saving schemes available to them, including part-exchanging an old home for new, and the house-builder’s popular Easymover scheme.

In addition, George Wimpey’s ‘Ask the Experts’ panel – available by calling 0845 688 1434 – offers property-seekers sound advice on the many options today’s movers face, and can arrange for the leading house-builder’s approved financial advisors and solicitors to provide mortgage and legal assistance to make moving hassle-free.

Earls Meadow is the perfect place to call home, with shops catering for everyday needs on the doorstep, a local tennis club, cricket club and a swimming centre, and with the railway station only a stroll away there is plenty of scope for days and evenings out, and ample shopping, sports and leisure at nearby Shrewsbury and Telford. For children, Wem has a primary and a secondary school with sixth-form.
