Hat trick of awards for Telford construction manager For the third year running, a Telford-based construction manager has won a coveted award in the National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job competition.

Mark Guest (42), who is a site manager for Bryant Homes, has been presented with a ‘Quality’ award for his beyond the call of duty efforts at landmark development The Village in Ketley – which is one of only seven Millennium communities in the UK designed to demonstrate best practice in social and environmental sustainability.

Having tasted success the last two years, Mark was determined to put in a repeat performance and says: “It’s always nice to be recognised for the hard work and effort put in, but I also see it as part of my job really. Going the extra mile can be tough and demanding sometimes – especially in the winter - but it’s also very rewarding and keeps the job fresh, challenging and interesting. It’s really satisfying to be involved with state-of-the-art green properties as well, because every home built has an EcoHomes ‘excellent’ rating.

“Properties here will reduce metered energy consumption and mains water consumption by 20%, plus improve on daylighting and noise proofing by 10%. And increased circulation areas created by roomier living spaces, high insulation levels and low energy heating systems all contribute to the homes being substantially friendly to the environment, and should see much reduced energy bills for residents.”

His production director, Stuart Payne adds: “Mark’s a real professional but also a real gentleman and we get a lot of feedback to this effect from very happy customers. The quality of our build at The Village is second to none and this is reflected in our recent Customer Satisfaction results where we scored 100% in five different categories.”

The NHBC’s Pride in the Job initiative aims to raise standards for the benefits of new homes buyers. Apart from the quality of the build at all stages, site managers are judged on their man management skills, programme ability, Health & Safety record, plus their presentation of the site. ‘Quality’ winners are universally regarded as the best in their profession and producing consistently high standards. NHBC inspectors will have made regular visits to The Village during the last 12 months and assessed Mark’s performance from foundation level to the finished product, as well as all the day-to-day workings of the development.

The Village is also making a name for itself because residents are able to have their say on how the development is maintained through a pioneering community trust system, which places maintenance decisions in the hands of those who live there. There are even schemes in place at the development to encourage greener modes of transport. Visit The Village on Holyhead Road between 10.00am and 5.00pm daily, or log on to Bryant.co.uk/thevillage.
