Black Clawson regeneration gets massive thumbs-up from home buyers

Alexandra Gate - Home hunters at the Newport Launch Crowds of house hunters showed up in a bid to secure their place at a new homes development that forms part of the £200 million rejuvenation of Old Town Dock in Newport.

Award winning developer Redrow has now officially unveiled its Alexandra Gate scheme on Usk Way and when the new homes went on sale last week (Thursday, January 25) demand was overwhelming.

More than 50 people reserved properties and Redrow had to rush through the release of its second phase to meet demand.

This came only days after 70 of Redrow’s first time buyer Debut properties, also to be built at Alexandra Gate, were snapped up in just eight hours by people who met with Newport City Council’s affordable home ownership criteria.

Debby Pavitt, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (South Wales) said: “The launch of our mainstream product at Alexandra Gate was held at the Celtic Manor Resort. It was a tremendous occasion and the homes were extremely well received.

“We had only planned to release one phase of homes, but demand on the day was so high we very quickly made the second phase available as well.

“By the end of the day, 55 people had reserved a home at Alexandra Gate and there are now only five apartments and four houses remaining in the current phase.”

The launch of Redrow’s flagship regeneration scheme was given the VIP treatment it deserved in the luxurious surroundings of one of Newport’s biggest success stories, the Celtic Manor hotel and golf resort – venue for the prestigious Ryder Cup in 2010. Guests drank from a champagne fountain and the Redrow hot air balloon also made an appearance to offer tethered flights when weather permitted.

Alexandra Gate will eventually consist of almost 400 new homes, including one and two-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom town houses, with contemporary designs to suit the city’s evolutionary spirit, as well as the innovative and award winning Debut properties.

Alexandra Gate enjoys an excellent waterfront location beside the River Usk. The development will also have the M4 motorway nearby providing easy access to other major towns and cities, including Cardiff and Bristol.

The multi-million pounds regeneration of the city is led by urban regeneration company, Newport Unlimited, which has already seen the first completed project to be built, a £5million foot and cycle bridge for the city.

As well as Redrow’s new £50 million development, Newport Unlimited’s plans for the Old Town Dock area include an office district, an 80-room hotel, a park and other facilities all set along the banks of the River Usk.

For those eager to be part of the first chapter of this major regeneration story, still available in the current phase of Redrow’s Alexandra Gate development is a selection of one and two bedroom apartments, with a single-bedroom Amherst apartment starting at just £125,995 and a two-bedroom Avon apartment starting at £174,995.

There is also a choice of three-bedroom houses available, with a terraced Fairwood design starting at just £164,995 and a three storey Lambourne design from £194,995.
