The winning street name submitted by Sarah was Bishop’s Croft. Approved by the local council, her street name is now official and will remain so forever. Sarah was presented with her very own street name sign as well as £50 of book tokens.

The runners up were Blossom Tree Close, by Devon Walker and Nevison Close, put forward by the whole of class 5S.

Mr Cowlishaw, Headteacher at Sandal Junior School, said: “It is always exciting to forge links with local businesses and get the children involved in the wider community.

“The competition was of real educational benefit as the children investigated into the history and heritage of the area and several of the suggested street names reflected this, including some that were named after William Nevison, 17th century local highwayman, known as ‘The Terror of The Great North’.

Darren Stubbs, Chairman of Consort Homes, said: “We want to build more than just houses; we want our developments to be part of the local community too, and what better way to do this than ask local children to name one of our streets.

“The school is just around the corner from this new development and we are keen to build a strong and lasting relationship with staff and pupils. As the building work progresses, we will be inviting the school back and hopefully we can help the children gain a better understanding of the benefit of strong local communities.”
