House builder give to ‘model’ pupils

House builder give to ‘model’ pupils Two schools in Wakefield now have some super-sized props to bring their lessons to life, after a local house builder made a ‘model’ donation. Outwood Rooks Nest Junior and Infant school and Outwood Ledger Lane Junior and Infant school have both been given large 3D models of housing developments by builder Redrow – allowing them to see homes and streets from a new and exciting angle.

Both schools will use the models as part of lessons and role playing and they’re already proving a hit with the children, who couldn’t wait to get a look up close.

Kevin Butler, headteacher at Outwood Ledger Lane school says:

“At the moment we have the model on general display and the children are absolutely fascinated with it – they love the detail and accuracy.

“We do work on mapping and it’s really useful for us to have a model like this, as it can be quite difficult for the children to visualise things three dimensionally.”

At Outwood Rooks Nest school, Julie Hampshire, nursery nurse, says the children are equally delighted with the donation, saying: “They were itching to play with the model as soon as we got it and really enjoy pushing the cars around the roads and talking about the different kinds of houses and apartments – especially because we’re studying homes at the moment.

“We’re also using it in our role play lessons and the model is now part of a big street system at the school – it’s great.”

The 3D models, scaled down versions of real developments created in Sheffield, Velocity Leeds and Adderley Bridge, have been used by Redrow in their sales offices to allow potential customers to see the new homes developments in their entirety – and they obviously worked, as all three ventures are now completely sold out.

The Wakefield-based house builder is pleased to be able to contribute to the local community, with Sue Lambert, sales director for Redrow Homes (Yorkshire) saying: “We’re in the business of creating new communities, and so it’s lovely to be able to give back to the area where we’re based. It’s great that the children are getting so much use out of the models that have served us so well, and we look forward to working with both of the schools again in the future.”

Kevin Butler adds: “It’s excellent that Redrow have chosen to donate to us when other companies must throw out many things that schools could use – we’re really grateful that they called us.”

Redrow plc builds circa 5,000 new homes across England, Wales and Scotland each year and Redrow Homes (Yorkshire) is currently building in Leeds, Bingley, Barnsley, Bridlington, Norton near Malton, Doncaster and Grimsby.
