Paul, Holly and Jane Naylor turn eco-friendly thanks to their new home Buying a new home can be a life changing experience, this has never been so true for one family living at Miller Homes’ unique eco-friendly development in Allerton Bywater. The Naylor family have literally changed their lifestyle to be more in tune with ethos of the development.

“It was our intention to move to a development which boasted a great community spirit and was family orientated, we found Miller’s Millennium Village to be just that. The eco-friendly benefits of the home was an added advantage,” said Jane Naylor.

The Millennium Village is Miller’s pioneering development nestled in the village of Allerton Bywater. It boasts homes that have been designed to minimise the ecological impact of the building process and to reduce domestic waste, energy and water consumption. It also includes special features such as low energy/high output boilers, extra insulation in walls and lofts, low flush WCs, low energy white goods and extensive waste recycling facilities.

Jane continued: “We had previously recycled our waste although since moving to the development we have become a new family changing most things from not using a microwave to buying soap nuts instead of washing powder!”

Since moving to Millennium Village the Naylor family have made a conscious decision to not use a tumble dryer, dishwasher or microwave because of the energy usage and chemicals. The family have also joined an organic farming scheme, whereby they pay a nominal fee to receive a box of fresh organic vegetables each week. The family also gets involved with the planting.

“When we joined the scheme we went along and decided to get our hands dirty by helping to plant our future produce, it inspired us that much that we now even grow our own vegetables in the garden which Holly loves to harvest!” continued Jane.

The Naylor family haven’t stopped there in their bid to become an eco-friendly family. Paul Naylor even recycles old desk lamps into plant pots and turns fabric off cuts into fabulous roman blinds.

Lorraine Walsh, area sales manager for Miller Homes said: “It’s fantastic that our homes have inspired families to become more eco-conscious. Let’s hope that more and more residents make good use of the eco benefits of their homes and become inspired by Jane, Paul and Holly.”

All homes at Millennium Village are set within superbly landscaped surroundings and boast the added advantage of being built within a Home Zone. The development is surrounded by green open countryside whilst also being conveniently situated within the M62, M1 and A1(M) triangle close to the main towns/city of Leeds, Castleford and Wakefield.

A four bedroom semi-detached property is available from just £188,500, to find out more about Millennium Village, visit Millerhomes.co.uk.
