Persimmon supports Cleckheaton charity event
A song and dance extravaganza being held in Cleckheaton to raise funds for Cookridge Hospital in Leeds and Macmillan Cancer Support has been given a £1,000 cash boost by leading housebuilder, Persimmon Homes. The event, which is being held at Whitcliffe Mount Business College on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th September, will see around 100 local performers, including some from the Stuart Stage School in Wakefield and the acclaimed LIPA Academy in Liverpool, based in Paul McCartney's old school, perform songs and dances from famous West End musicals and films. Tickets are still available and cost just £8.00 or £7.00 with a concession.
The production is the brainchild of Pat Woodrow (58) who lives at Persimmon’s Magdalene Fields development in Gomersal. Pat was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer in March, so unusual that only around 200 people are diagnosed with this particular strain in the UK each year, and since her diagnosis, Pat has been determined to raise much needed funds for Macmillan nurses and was intent on staging a show to remember.
Commenting, Pat said: “Since being diagnosed, I have learned that around 1.2 million are living with cancer in the UK however, there are only around 4,000 Macmillan nurses to care for them. The nurses are so valuable to anyone who needs their support and in my case, they are always at the end of the phone should I need to talk to someone.
“Everyone involved in the production has been so supportive and have given their time for free. Persimmon’s donation has also covered the cost of hiring the venue and specialist sound and lighting equipment which was also a huge help.
“I can’t speak highly enough of the work of Macmillan nurses and hope we welcome sell-out audiences which will help swell the fundraising coffers.”
All proceeds from the event will be split equally between Macmillan Cancer Support and the radiography department at Cookridge Hospital in Leeds where Pat continues to receive treatment.
