1000th Millennium Community residents enjoy new home The Yorkshire residents of the 1000th property in the Millennium Communities Programme, run by national regeneration agency English Partnerships, have now been enjoying the delights of their Miller home for the past three months and feel their lives have changed for the better.

Hannah Scott and Adrian Lewis were introduced to their new home at Allerton Bywater Millennium Community, near Leeds, by the star of BBC2s ‘No Waste Like Home’ Penney Poyzer.

Hannah said: “It has been a great three months, it is the first home we have purchased together and it has been so easy. There were many reasons why we chose this development and this property in particular, which included the environmentally friendly benefits as well as the IT network.

“Adrian is a technical specialist for HBOS and works from home on some occasions so has really benefited from the fact that all the rooms have network capabilities which means that he can quite easily work from home without having to install any new bits of technology which means no unsightly wires!”

Penney Poyzer commented: “It is encouraging to know that people are taking the issues of climate change seriously and intend to change the way they live to help tackle this problem. Allerton Bywater Millennium Community offers a fantastic opportunity for people to get on to the property ladder and become more environmentally aware.”

Hannah also mentioned that their recycling has been stepped up a notch thanks to Penney’s tips and the special segregated bin in the kitchen. Although they have not yet reaped the benefits of the reduction in their energy bills, as until now they have not had to have the heating on, they are looking forward to saving a few pounds after the Christmas period.

The couple have also found that living in a Home Zone is quite interesting. With no pavements, pedestrians are given equal priority to vehicles, which Hannah feels has enabled the couple to more easily get to know their neighbours.

Hannah and Adrian’s home, like all others on Miller’s development, includes specific features to help reduce the impact on the environment. Such as energy efficient light fittings, timber window and door frames from sustainable sources, bigger windows to reduce the need for artificial lighting and ‘A’ grade white goods, including a washing machine designed to use less than 40 litres of water per cycle.

Homes available at the Millennium Community range from three bedroom mid townhouses to four bedroom semi detached homes. Prices range from £152,500 to £215,950, the sales centre and the showhome is open seven days a week from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
