Purring with pride in Churwell

Purring with pride in Churwell When Churwell Lions' open age football team asked estate agent Manning Stainton to help with a much needed new home strip the company was delighted to help. Mortgages Director Steve Murgatroyd, who arranged the deal, said the club had a long tradition of community involvement - providing excellent football coaching, outdoor exercise and teaching the benefits of team spirit across 15 age groups.

"Our branches are spread across Leeds and Wakefield and we share an interest in working with, and helping, community projects by way of our Community Fund" he said.

Many of Churwell Lions' Club players have gone on to play football at the highest levels and clubs associated with the lions include Leeds United, Manchester United, Bradford City and Huddersfield Town; indeed, current Leeds United star Johnny Howson came up through the club's ranks.

Open age team secretary James Duval said the club wanted to extend a "big thank you" to Manning Stainton for the kit and for their continued encouragement.
