A house to call home after seven years

27th January 2009 Print
Struggling to find a home, mother of one, Samantha Brooke, 24 of Liversedge, has for the past seven years lived in a cramped three bed semi with five other members of her family. Now, thanks to a shared equity plan, Samantha has found an affordable haven in a brand new two bedroom apartment.

Sharing a bedroom with her eight year old daughter gave Samantha no privacy. It was not until a chance look at a banner on Halifax Road, advertising ‘move in for £79 per week', that Samantha's dream of having her own family home could actually become reality.

"I wanted a place to live where my daughter could have her own bedroom," explained Samantha.

"I had looked at properties in the past and found a mid terrace two bed back-to-back house but just couldn't afford the mortgage. When I saw the banner I thought £79 a week was too good to be true especially for a brand new home."

Samantha pushed aside her doubts and visited Miller Homes' sales centre at the award-winning housebuilder's Sovereign Park development in Liversedge. Miway, the hugely popular shared equity initiative was explained to Samantha by sales adviser Kelly Brown.

Kelly said: "Samantha was looking to get her foot on the property ladder although had in the past struggled to find the finance. Miway was the perfect solution. It is a shared equity, not shared ownership scheme, which means that Samantha will own 100% of her property with only an initial outlay of 75% of the price. She could arrange her own finance for 75% of the purchase price and Miller Homes will provide a 0% APR loan for the remaining 25%, secured by a second mortgage. Samantha would then repay the loan by paying back 25% of the value of her home when she sells or transfers it, or after 10 years - whichever comes soonest."

Samantha continued: "I couldn't believe it, I had found a fantastic apartment in the perfect location I would have never dreamed I would have been able to afford it. But after going through everything with the financial advisors I found I could. In 10 years time my daughter will be 18 years old and my circumstances will have changed so Miway is the perfect solution for me now.

"In fact if it hadn't been for Miller Homes and their Miway scheme I would still be living with my parents, and my daughter wouldn't have her very own ‘Hannah Montana' themed bedroom!

"I would certainly recommend this to anyone struggling to get the finance to buy their own property - not everything has to be too good to be true!".

Sovereign Park is ideally located for Samantha with the town centre of Cleckheaton and Sam's parents, just one mile away and Heckmondwike being just 0.5 miles away. The local area of Spenborough boasts local shops, pubs, a post office and pharmacy as well as swimming baths, running track and gym.
