David Wilson Homes hosts charity football tournament David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West has presented two local charities; Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Yorkshire division of Cancer Research with cheques for a fantastic £1,400 each. The money was raised by the housebuilder which hosted a 5-A-side charity football tournament, the David Wilson Homes Charity Shield 2008, in which ten teams competed.

The team from David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, led by construction manager Darren Johnson, who organised the tournament, were joined by nine others made up of a selection of David Wilson Homes’ suppliers, including Mortgage Talk, Dransfield Roofing, Ford Windows and V&E Joiners Ltd.

Alongside Darren on the David Wilson Homes team were site managers Mick McNamara, Gary Taylor and Mark Bailey, site surveyor Gary Chambers and regional sales director, Steve Jackson.

The nail biting final between Dransfield Roofing and Ford Windows came down to a last minute 1-1 draw and after a fierce penalty shoot-out it was Dransfield Roofing that emerged victorious.

Steve Jackson comments: “It was a great opportunity to come together with our suppliers in a fun, social environment. Everyone loves a good game of footie but it was it also gave us the opportunity to raise a lot of money for two really worthwhile causes.
“Cancer Research UK and Yorkshire Air Ambulance are both great charities and do a fantastic job in the area. We are so pleased that we were able to help them in their work and hope to be able to support them again in the future.”

Steve and Darren presented Nicky De Whytell, a representative from Yorkshire Air Ambulance, and Simon Moran, Area Volunteer Manager for Cancer Research UK with the cheques at David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West offices in Wortley.

Nicky comments: “We were thrilled that David Wilson Homes and their suppliers managed to raise such a fantastic amount for Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We rely on the generosity of others – we fly seven days a week, 365 days a year to provide a life saving rapid response emergency services to five million people across Yorkshire and these funds will help ensure the continuation of this vital service.”

Simon adds: “We are extremely grateful for the support David Wilson Homes has given to Cancer Research UK – it is donations like this that help to save lives and it really does make a huge difference.”
