Colsterworth pupils learn about site safety Housebuilder David Wilson North Midlands has recently given local school children the chance to learn about the dangers of building sites at its Newton Grange development on Bridge End in Colsterworth.

Years five and six at Colsterworth Primary School visited the development of new homes in order to learn about the different construction methods, how new homes are built and any hidden dangers.

The children aged between nine and 11 are now taking part in a competition, to design a poster to warn other children about the dangers of a building site.

Steph Andrews, Year two class teacher at Colsterworth Primary School commented “We are delighted that David Wilson arranged this visit and the children certainly enjoyed the experience. It enabled them to really understand what important jobs the construction staff do and highlighted the dangers of a building site. And whilst wearing the hard hats was great fun it also demonstrated to them how serious the risks were.

“The visit also helped the children better understand the materials used to build homes from and complimented a project we ran earlier in the year called ‘houses and homes’, where we built a model village from Lego.”

James Poynor, Sales Director at David Wilson North Midlands added, “Many children do not realise the dangers of building sites and see it as a fun place to play. However, this is certainly not the case and many children are hurt and injured every year as a result of playing on building sites.

“Therefore, it is very important to highlight the dangers to children from a young age and this type of visit gives children a ‘hands on’ experience of a building site and really helps the lessons stick in the children’s minds.

“To tie in with the visit, all the children involved also have the chance to enter our site safety poster competition, highlighting the dangers of being around a real working building site without proper supervision and safety equipment.”

The results of the poster competition will be announced in September.

Newton Grange offers a selection of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes. Prices start from £177,995. For more information log on to dwh.co.uk/newtongrange.
