Wolverhampton school breeds sales team of the future

Danielle Lally, Tom Carter, Charlotte Singh and Prince Annor from Deansfield High School took part in a six week training programme with Persimmon Homes to gain a unique insight into the working life of a sales adviser. Their intensive training culminated with them the pupils being challenged to put their new-found skills into practice for a whole weekend at the Deans Park development where they were visited by families, teachers, Local Authority officers and students from Wolverhampton University.
The pupils were selected through a rigorous ‘apprentice’ style interview process and were put through their paces by Persimmon’s professional team where they learnt all aspects of the sales advisers role from developing extensive product knowledge to knowing how to conduct guided tours of the professionally designed showhome.
Work was overseen by Deansfield High School’s Humanities teacher Michelle Fennell who said: “This has been a fantastic opportunity for our pupils and the team at Persimmon have been brilliant. I've learned a lot and the pupils have been fascinated - I'm sure people were impressed by their product knowledge and understanding of the local housing market.”
Anita Williams, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes West Midlands, comments: “At Persimmon we know the importance of involving the local community with all the work we do and over the past few years have forged a strong partnership with Deansfield High School.
“We were bowled over by the pupils’ constant professionalism and their insatiable appetite for learning. Their time with Persimmon was a resounding success - who knows, they may be the Persimmon sales advisers of the future!”
The work forms part of Deansfield's acclaimed Creative Partnership activity, supported by the Education Business Partnership with additional funding from Arts and Business.
