Redrow land manager knows a good buy

Redrow land manager Sunil Plaha has beaten the first time buyer trap by just three years after buying one of his company’s new homes in Streetly, West Midlands. Sunil, 31, has bought himself a two-bedroom apartment at Poet’s Wood, even though the Halifax reports that the average age of a first time buyer is now 34.

Moving from the family home in nearby Four Oaks, he said: “I’ve wanted to get on the property ladder for quite a while but the situation for first time buyers just seemed to get harder and harder. However, once I saw the Poet’s Wood development I knew it was too good an opportunity to miss.”

Although Sunil’s role for Redrow involves buying new sites for future development he has visited all of the existing schemes to build up his product knowledge.

He explained: “As soon as I saw Poet’s Wood, I was immediately impressed with the product, the build quality and the area in which it was located. It ticked all the boxes for what I wanted in my first home and luckily I was able to get a mortgage.”

Sunil’s brand new two-bedroom ‘Avon’ apartment enabled him to get on the ladder in a hugely desirable area where house prices are traditionally high.

“I could never have afforded a house at Poets Wood but the apartments brought the development into my price range,” he added.

“I grew up in Great Barr, my family now live in Four Oaks and Streetly sits right in the middle of the two so it’s ideal for my lifestyle, close to all my family and friends.”

Sunil, who joined Redrow at its Tamworth office just under a year ago, has now legally completed on the property and is at last a bona fide home owner. He says he is looking forward to moving in, in the New Year.”

For those who also want to get onto the property ladder at Poet’s Wood, the bad news is there’s only one home available; a three-bedroom house, ideal for couples and young families, priced at £194,950.
