Block of flats proposed for former car lot
A former car sales business in Shoreham could provide space for a mainly four-storey block of 24 flats.Adur District Council has received a planning application from Abbeycare Investments Ltd for the ‘L’ shaped block of flats at 12 – 18 Old Shoreham Road , Shoreham (A283).
Last year Adur’s planners turned down an application to build a 60 bedroom residential home on this site because of overdevelopment, poor design and lack of a safe means of escape in the event of flooding.
Access to the flats would be by remote control gates, set back off the road. The development would have 6 one bedroom,17 two bedroom and one three bedroom flats with 21 car parking spaces.
Built using a contemporary design and flat roofed, the flats would feature balconies and use a mixture of render, weatherboarding, brick and aluminium panels. The proposal also includes increasing the width of the public footpath the full length of the site.
Acknowledging the area as being at risk of flooding, the developers propose to build the ground floor facing the road two metres above road level and four storeys above. They also state that the development would include new drainage.
The plans are available at the Help Point, Civic Centre, Shoreham and comments can be made to the Head of Planning and Community, Adur District Council, Civic Centre, Ham Road , Shoreham by Sea BN43 6PR by 5 April 2007.
