Sale of Sotheby's Manor House for mixed use scheme

The property, formerly part of Sotheby’s regional Auction House, in Billingshurst, Horsham, comprises a significant and striking Grade II listed manor house with additional buildings. In total there is approximately 58,000 sq ft GIA of existing accommodation.
The property is situated in an attractive parkland setting and is approached via an impressive tree lined avenue.
The proposed residential development will comprise the refurbishment of the main house, a 20,000 sq ft listed building, which will be converted into 11 apartments, as well as 23 new homes which will include a mix of three and four bedroom townhouses and mews cottages.
Sotheby’s will remain on part of the site with its regional and garden statuary operations and Berkeley Homes has also made the decision to relocate its regional (Southern Business) Head Quarters to the site within a new office building.
Hugo Stuttaford, Knight Frank partner and head of south east land, says: “The planning negotiations have taken over four years due to the complexity and sensitive nature of this site, so it’s fantastic news that the sale is now complete and planning has been granted. It means the future of an important landmark listed building is now secure with a corresponding improvement in its semi-rural setting. This development also combines the twin benefits of the support of local businesses and the provision of high quality and well designed housing on previously developed land.’’
