The joint venture will see the two developers building contemporary properties on the substantial parcel of land, which has been named Signature Place to echo the area’s rich literary history.

The village of Felpham lies to the east of Bognor Regis, the sunniest place in Britain, in West Sussex. The county is renowned for its breathtaking scenery with 80% being rural and over half is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The county also boasts miles of sandy beaches and spectacular seafront.

Barratt and David Wilson plan to build a range of property types from apartments to two, three, four and five bedroom homes at Signature Place to appeal to a cross section of buyers, including first time buyers, families, professionals, retired couples and also second homeowners.

Ian Wallace, managing director of Barratt Homes South said: “We are very excited about this upcoming development and the partnership with David Wilson Homes. The location is superb; Signature Place will be in a countryside setting, yet close to the coast and all amenities. It’s no wonder this area attracts many famous residents.”

David Wilson Homes managing director Chris Edmonson added that the planning process was now in progress and both parties were keen to get started on the development.

“We are expecting a very high level of interest in Signature Place, it will be expertly designed, constructed and presented, and will offer inspired living in this stunning setting. It will be a flagship development for each company.”

Felpham was, and still is, home to some famous residents most notably poet William Blake, his friend and fellow poet William Hayley, together with architect Sir Richard Hotham, who was a prolific builder in the 19th Century.

Blake described the place as 'the sweetest spot on earth'. And today Felpham still retains its picturesque, rural character with old buildings, high flint walls and scenic arrangement of roads in the heart of the village, yet also borders the south coast.

Felpham itself was a popular seaside resort in the 19th century as well as a flourishing residential community and has continued to thrive. The charming seafront has tennis courts, a putting green, a sailing club and two beach restaurants, and the village centre offers a few pubs, convenience stores, independent butchers and fruit/vegetable shops as well as takeaways and restaurants.

Signature Place will also be in the catchment area for a number of local schools, including primary and secondary education.

Felpham is close to the rolling expanse of the South Downs, with great local nature trails, cycling and other activities. Local attractions include Pagham Nature Reserve, Fishbourne Roman Palace, Arundel Castle, and Boxgrove Priory.

Nearby Bognor Regis offers excellent amenities and attractions, and easy access from London, with the rail link taking approximately one and a half hours. There are also major supermarkets, a sports complex, and many schools/colleges in the town.

And the cathedral city of Chichester is six miles away, where the Festival theatre regularly attracts world class actors and performers.
