Bellway chosen to create new homes on Goodwood Estate

19th July 2007 Print
Bellway has announced that it is to build new homes on one of England’s most prestigious Estates.

Bellway South East has had plans approved to construct 114 new homes on a corner of the Goodwood Estate in West Sussex. With views of the south Downs and parts of the glamorous Goodwood Estate – home to horseracing, motor sport events, aeronautical activities, two golf courses, hotel & spa and an organic farm - the eight-acre site at Westhampnett will provide a collection of elegantly designed homes that will be traditional with a contemporary edge. The designs for The Grange at Westhampnett (the site name) are subject to a strict Design Charter and the style will reflect the best of the local Sussex vernacular – including local brick and flint external finishes and specified colours for paintwork.

The homes will be sold on a 250 year leasehold basis with the site owned by the Goodwood Estate Company Ltd. Goodwood will therefore be closely involved throughout construction and after completion.

The chosen section of Goodwood’s 12,000 acre Estate lies in a partially wooded area on the edge of the small village of Westhampnett, adjacent to the Rolls Royce assembly plant which is distinctive for its quiet operation and sustainable grassed roof.

Particular care has been invested in the landscaping of the site with the retention of as many mature trees as possible and a specification in the Design Charter that only native British trees may be planted. The site will benefit from a central green and include a children’s play area.

Sales Director of Merstam-based Bellway South East, Palvinder Thandi, said: “We are immensely proud to be working on this site. Having been selected from thirteen developers who bid for the work, we are conscious of our responsibility to the Goodwood Estate and to the surrounding neighbourhood to create a truly elegant and desirable collection of new homes. One can rarely use the word ‘unique’ but in this case it is apt. I am not aware of any other development that combines such a level of rural tranquillity and village amenities, with the excitement of one of the world’s greatest sporting grounds, proximity to the lively and charming city of Chichester and to the coast.”

Bellway will be creating a range of homes including two-bedroom apartments, two, and three-bedroom houses, three/four bedroom townhouses plus four/five bedroom detached houses which will have views of the South Downs and the elegant Goodwood grounds. Prices will be released next year but are estimated to be between £350,000- £750,000. Marketing for The Grange at Westhampnett will commence in May 2008 with first occupations expected in Summer 2008. The site will be completed towards the close of 2010.
