Sustainable development proposals for Broadbridge Heath

8th December 2008 Print
Sustainable development proposals for Broadbridge Heath Countryside Properties has submitted two planning applications relating to land south of Broadbridge Heath, West Sussex which forms part of Horsham District Council's West of Horsham strategic allocation.

The proposals constitute a sustainable residential-led mixed-use scheme that will contribute significantly towards housing provision in the district and enhance access to open space and recreational opportunities.

An outline planning application covers the development of a mixed-use scheme comprising up to 1,013 homes of all tenures, a primary school, a neighbourhood centre including a doctors' surgery, flexible business/retail units, parish office, public house/restaurant, open space including sports pitches and changing facilities, allotments, and associated landscaping and infrastructure.

John Oldham, Director and Group Chief Town Planner for Countryside Properties, says: "These plans are for a deliverable scheme which will provide a valuable boost to the area with much needed new housing particularly for families. The difficulty during these recessionary times is conceiving plans that do actually deliver and we are confident that these plans can be brought to fruition within a reasonable timescale. We are also planning to build the new homes to high levels of environmental sustainability."

A separate ‘hybrid' planning application has been submitted for approval of highway works including a new ‘grade separated' junction on the A24 and an ‘east to west link road' from the A24 to the A264 adjacent to Newbridge Nurseries.

The submission of the planning application follows discussions with the Council and extensive consultations with the local community and other stakeholders.
