Bellway encourages site safety for children in Romford

Bellway’s Construction Manager, Gary Barrett, Technical Director, Steve Saville and Southern Area Safety Manager, Cameron Jones, paid a visit to Mawney Road School which is opposite Bellway’s Twenty5 development in Romford. Bellway has been teaching local pupils aged 4– 11 about the dangers of playing on construction sites and asking them to take part in a competition to design a sign to underline safety on site.
Steve Saville of Bellway Thames Gateway North said: “According to the Health and Safety Executive’s report in 2006, 235 children were injured on construction sites between 2002 and 2005. As a major developer, we feel that it is vital to try and reduce this number by helping children to understand the dangers of building sites and encouraging them to play safe.
He added: “I am confident that the children will go home and back to the classroom to spread the important message on to friends and family. I also hope that everyone who saw the presentation remembers and understands the important lesson, that construction sites are dangerous places.
“The children have been very enthusiastic, and we’ve had a fantastic response to the art competition. I look forward to seeing the winning designs at the end of February”.
Located between Mawney Road and Marks Road, the aptly-named new apartment block, Twenty5 will comprise a mix of studios, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments. The development is on the site of the original Romford public baths built in 1900. There will be a parking place allocated for each home and the site will feature an attractive courtyard and Juliet balconies to most apartments.
Situated close to the railway station with journey times of around 20 minutes to London Liverpool Street, there is also easy access to the A12. Twenty5 represents urban living at it best: the apartments are a stone’s throw away from Romford town centre and its abundance of amenities.
