Royal encouragement for Redrow

Redrow’s Schooners Creek development in Rowhedge, near Colchester, has been recognised by The Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment and the Home Builders Federation (HBF) for helping to improve the quality of life for the people living at Schooners Creek, as well as contributing to greater energy efficiency.
George Cronin, managing director for Redrow Homes (Eastern) says: “To receive a commendation for Schooners Creek from the Prince’s Foundation and the HBF is a great achievement and demonstrates how Redrow is at the forefront of good urban design. It was a great honour to meet Prince Charles who presented our award.”
Schooners Creek is a completed waterside development of 122 homes, situated on the site of a former scrap metal yard, which features a selection of one and two-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom houses. The scheme was designed in accordance with national and local planning guidelines and part of the site fell within a local conservation area.
All of the new homes feature architectural design that is both sensitive to the location and to the local ‘Essex vernacular’. As well as being situated close to Rowhedge and its surrounding countryside, Schooners Creek lies just two-and-a-half miles away from the thriving historic Roman town of Colchester.
George continues: “Schooners Creek is a development that we’re really proud of. It was one of just 11 developments around the UK to be highlighted in this first joint recognition scheme by the Prince’s Foundation and HBF.”
The development was tested against criteria such as the choice of building materials, with those sourced locally being most popular, providing safe vehicular and pedestrian passages and representing a valuable asset in economical, environmental and social terms.
The last home may well be long-sold at Schooners Creek but the good news for home buyers is that Redrow is set to repeat success in Colchester with its latest development, The Myle, at Mill Road. Redrow is building circa 260 new homes, including stylish one and two-bedroom apartments and also two, three and four-bedroom houses.
George adds: “Once again we have worked closely with Colchester Borough Council to ensure that the development is in keeping with the Essex Design Guide in respect of layout, density and elevational treatments. The frontage of the site will reflect the existing character of Mill Road while, once inside, there will be distinct areas of development to create variety and a sense of place. Examples of this will include elegant three-storey town houses around a formal square, separate mews and courtyard areas and detached housing in much ‘looser’, more informal layouts.”
The Myle is in a great location for commuters, with easy access to the A12, which leads directly to the capital in around an hour-and-a-half, while rail links from Colchester provide access to nearby Ipswich in less than 20 minutes and to London Liverpool Street in about an hour. Stansted airport is approximately a 45 minute drive.
Three and four-bedroom houses are currently available with prices from £213,995. For further details, visit redrow.co.uk.
