Saffron Green is a home away from home

According to figures from the Office of National Statistics there are currently more than 200,000 properties in the UK owned as second homes, 20 percent of which are semi-permanent residences used by individuals who work away from their main home.

This is true for Dr. Sarah Boxall, a Patent Attorney for a leading firm in Cambridge, who recently purchased a second home at Saffron Green, Countryside Properties’ brand new development in the desirable town of Saffron Walden.

Originally from nearby Stansted, Sarah’s main home is now located in Sandwich in Kent. Sarah recently accepted a position in Cambridge, but instead of relocating, she decided to purchase a second home which she could use during the week whilst returning to Sandwich at the weekends.

Sarah commented: “I knew that I wanted to buy my second home in Saffron Walden because it is such an attractive town that is full of character and the architecture is very similar to that of Sandwich. I spent some time looking at older properties in the area, but found that most of the homes were quite small and out of my price range.”

After some investigation Sarah found the only new build development offering two, three and four bedroom houses at Saffron Walden, which were both attractive and within her budget. Sarah was so impressed with the property she viewed that she reserved her new home on the same day as her first visit.

Sarah said: “I initially visited the scheme with the intention of purchasing a 2 bedroom apartment but was delighted to discover that my budget was actually able to secure a house. After my initial viewing I knew that it was the ideal property for me and I reserved it the same afternoon.”

Comprising 55 contemporary two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom houses, Saffron Green is an attractive development located in one of the UK’s best preserved examples of a medieval market town.

Whilst the design of the properties feature all the charm and character associated with older style houses, the interiors are fresh and modern providing low maintenance homes that are ready to move in to. The ability to move straight in without the need to update and decorate was another major attraction for Sarah:

“Although I was initially looking for an older property the benefits of buying a brand new home have become evident since moving in. As I wanted to spend most weekends at my other home in Kent, it was an extra benefit to buy a home that didn’t require decorating.”

Yvonne Hudson-Green, Sales and Marketing Director for Countryside Properties, comments: “There are an increasing number of people that are buying property as a pied-a-terre, spending a few nights a week there whilst working away from home. New build homes lend themselves to this type of use as they offer a secure, low maintenance option with minimal hassle.”

Prices at Saffron Green start from £198,950 for a two bedroom apartment. For further information and to visit a show home, visit Saffrongreen.co.uk.
