CGI of the Venford home, in a similar style to those which are available at The Lakes The wait is finally over for house buyers in Essex, as Redrow throws open the doors of two luxurious show homes. And to celebrate, the star of the classic 1968 film, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, will fly into The Lakes, in Heybridge, for the event on the 15th September.

The stylish homes at the development are proving difficult to pass by, thanks to their tranquil, natural surroundings, bordered by Heybridge Lake, the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation canal and the Black Water estuary.

Potential buyers can now have a look around a four-bedroom Venford or peak into life in a five-bedroom Webburn and give themselves an idea of how a life of luxury can be lived at The Lakes.

Beryl Williams, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (Eastern) says: “We’re delighted to be opening the doors to these two beautiful shows homes and we think that buyers will be wowed by them. It’s also great for us to have Chitty here for the day to really set things off with a bang!

“We’ve really gone to town on the fantastic gardens so that buyers can see what the whole package is like here in Heybridge. With so many homes to choose from there is something here to suit everyone and we look forward to welcoming one and all to The Lakes.”

Visitors to the new show homes will be able to take a look at Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Although several mock-ups of the car were made for use in the film only one real, custom-built, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang automobile was painstakingly constructed to be used on the road. The car is street-legal and is registered as a motor vehicle in the UK with the same licence plate it had in the film, ‘GEN 11’.

The Venford home has a neutral colour theme, with soft browns and creams throughout, accented with a strong burnt orange colour. Floral patterned wallpapers have been used in some rooms to create a feeling of luxury, while elegant light fittings add a glamorous touch. A mix of dark wood and oak furniture is used throughout the home, while the dining room has a whole breath-taking wall of mirrored glass – one of the central features of the home.

The Webburn is a classic family home, with cool and calming aqua and neutral colours combined with soft metallics. The bold patterned wallpaper is accented with a mixture of glass and chrome furniture, and rustic oak furniture in the master bedroom. One of the bedrooms has also been decorated with a sail boat theme – complete with boat wallpaper, whilst the study has a large boat canvas on the wall.

The Venford homes are one of a number of spacious four-bedroom homes available at The Lakes. On the ground floor viewers will find the kitchen, family room, separate dining room, lounge, utility room, study, understairs storage cupboard and cloakroom. The four bedrooms, one with en-suite, and family bathroom can be found on the first floor. Prices start from £418,995.

The Webburn home brings a touch of class to family living. It cleverly converts the usually redundant loft space to create two extra bedrooms and a shower room – perfect for giving teenagers their own space. The ground floor has a large kitchen, utility room, separate dining room, lounge, family room, understairs storage and cloakroom. The first floor contains three bedrooms – two of which boast walk in wardrobes and one an en-suite bathroom. With a detached single garage, prices for the Webburn start at £475,995.

When completed the 15-acre venture will have 124 homes in stylish three, four and five-bedroom styles. Properties range from two storey terraces to large detached homes and include the popular and versatile three storey variety.

The development has quickly become popular thanks to its beautiful views of the River Blackwater and proximity to the picturesque Heybridge Basin, which offers walks along the seawall back into Heybridge. The Lakes is also close to the historic town of Maldon, which is one of the oldest recorded towns in Britain; and is opposite Maldon’s Promenade Park, with its many acres of open space and children’s play areas.

In Heybridge itself there is a shopping complex, restaurants, supermarkets, pubs, and other local amenities and is a popular holiday destination for many people.

Heybridge is approximately 30 minutes outside of Chelmsford, while London Liverpool Street can be reached by direct rail link from nearby Chelmsford or Witham station in around 40 minutes.
