Crest Nicholson helps Chelmsford residents go green A new EU report has again delivered a stark warning on the consequences of carbon emissions and global warming; the report drawn up by the EU Commission claims that climate change will have an increasing impact on global security, by multiplying existing threats such as shortages of food and water.

In its Greener Living Guide, Crest Nicholson PLC highlights that homes in the UK account for approximately 15% of all of the UK's greenhouse gas emissions, with the average house producing approximately six tonnes of carbon dioxide a year; therefore tackling carbon emissions in the home needs to be a top priority.

As an environmentally responsible developer, Crest Nicholson (Eastern) Ltd. is dedicated to providing homes that are built to be energy and water-use efficient; at its new development, Clarion Gate located in the county town of Chelmsford in Essex, the company is going further to help residents live a more sustainable lifestyle and reduce individual carbon footprints. Integrated in to every home is a series of environmentally-friendly features designed to minimise the inconvenience often associated with going green.

Firstly, all homes at Clarion Gate have been meticulously designed and will be constructed to the stringent EcoHomes ‘Very Good’ Standard. EcoHomes is an environmental rating for homes that employs an independently verified assessment seeking to improve the overall environmental performance of new and existing properties.

To achieve this, homes at Clarion Gate feature select materials and systems designed to increase energy efficiency. These include high quality insulation to minimise energy loss, ‘A’ rated energy efficient appliances and lighting, water efficient taps and dual flush toilets making going green effortless.

Further features include integrated recycling bins that have been fitted in to every kitchen to help with waste separation and to reduce reliance on washer/dryers, a rotary washing line will be provided in each garden or in the apartments a retractable drying line will be fitted in the bathroom.

Car emissions are another major contributor to the UK’s overall carbon footprint and at Clarion Gate Crest Nicholson is encouraging residents to hang up their car keys. By incorporating an extra phone and electrical socket in a designated room within each home, individuals have the ability to create a home office and reduce the need for the daily commute. A six month season ticket for local bus services has also been provided to encourage residents to make best use of the existing public transport network when possible.

Helen Moore, Sales and Marketing Director, Crest Nicholson (Eastern) Ltd. commented: “We are all aware of climate change and I think that most of us would like to do more but feel we just don’t have the time. A home at Clarion Gate helps to take some of the effort out of being green and by changing just a few things we can all make a big impact.”

Clarion Gate is a superb collection of 153 traditional and contemporary styled apartments and houses that effortlessly combine style with greener living. In tune with its surrounding locale, when complete the development will be laid out across two complimentary, yet distinctive areas called The Village Green and The Avenues and both will be built around a newly formed village green.

Internally, all homes will be fresh and modern and finished to the high standard associated with the Crest Nicholson brand.

Ideal for families, Clarion Gate will benefit from the relocated Marconi Athletic and Social Club which will offer an extensive range of onsite facilities; a new sports centre will incorproate six tennis courts, three squash courts, short mat bowls and snooker facilties. Additional facilities will include a bar, conference facilities, and a fully equipped gymnaisum with a cardio theatre and free weights.

Chelmsford has excellent transport links. Nearby Chelmsford Station provides fast and effiecient services in to London Liverpool Street in approximately 35 minutes. Alternatively, the A12 is just a short drive from the scheme and provides direct routes south to the Capital and Colchester to the north.

To take away the stress of finding a buyer for an existing home, Crest Nicholson is currently offering purchasers a full value part-exchange service at Clarion Gate.
