Bellway launches important new homes scheme in Purfleet

13th May 2008 Print
Housebuilder Bellway has announced that it is to build a collection of 163 new homes at a new site in Purfleet to be called Watt’s Wood Park. This exciting development will comprise studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments plus two-, three- and four-bedroom houses. Prices for a one bedroom home start at a very reasonable £135,000.

However, before construction begins of homes for humans, Bellway has some other rather important homes to create – for the local wildlife. Bellway’s ecology team has discovered that a population of Great Crested Newts had already discovered the pleasures of living at Watt’s Wood Park and so the newts, an endangered species, must safely be re-homed before houses are built.

Stewart Gravenor of RLT engineering explains the procedures:

“The habitat is being enhanced to offer a suitable environment that can support a greater density of reptiles and invertebrates. This will be achieved by constructing five underground nesting areas, enhancing the seeding of the meadow area and a new hedgerow that will be constructed to the Eastern boundary of the site. The newts and slow worms will be trapped and relocated into the remaining meadow.

The scheme will also include a selection of affordable homes which will be available through Family Mosaic.

Purfleet is an attractive place to live as it is within reach both of rural areas and the River Thames as well as the City. For families, there is local shopping and a primary school and the homes are only two miles from the buzz of one of Europe’s largest shopping and leisure malls – Lakeside Thurrock. The area is also a haven for wildlife as it is surrounded by green open spaces that encompass an array of habitats from woodland to marshland. There are also lakes that offer water-sports opportunities.

Communications links are good with the M25 providing easy access to Essex and, south of the Thames, to north Kent. Rail links to London are quick and Fenchurch Street is just a 30 minute train ride whilst city Airport is only 12 miles away.

Images and a detailed price list will be available from mid-June. In the meantime, to register your interest in a home at Watt’s Wood Park visit Bellway.co.uk.
