Redrow gets muddy with £3,000 race sponsorship

Responsible for impressive new housing venture The Lakes, located on Hall Road, Heybridge, the award-winning house builder has shown further commitment to the area by funding the seventh annual Maldon Mud Race.
Redrow's generous gesture of £3,000 will help boost donations to the chosen charities of Maldon's Lions Club and Rotary Club, who jointly organise the event.
Michael Ballard, Lions Club member and event secretary said: "We are absolutely delighted Redrow have come on board to support the 'mad' Maldon Mud Race, taking place in January 2009. The event is gaining increased local, national, and international exposure."
Since the Lions and Rotary Club took over the event in 2001 they have seen donations soar to in excess of £140,000. And it's not only donations that are on the increase, a growing participant list will include competitors from across the world.
Organised as a fun way to raise money for charity, the race starts and finishes at Promenade Park in Maldon. The two hundred competitors will race across the River Blackwater at low tide, along the bank and then back across to the finish line.
There are a range of trophies to be won including the first male to complete the course, the first female and of course the first person in fancy dress to cross the muddy line. And for the first time, the Redrow veteran's trophy will be awarded to the most senior person in the race.
Michael added: "Thanks to Redrow's sponsorship we can implement additional activities to improve the event. For instance, at last year's race we installed a giant plasma screen to allow better sighting of the event to the 7,000 plus spectators. It really is going to be a great year for the Maldon Mud Race."
Redrow has previously supported the annual East London Cabbies Outing to Maldon for disabled children, provided sponsorship for a garden party at Langford Grove in aid of the Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity, and supported Heybridge Church, Maldon Saints FC and the Blackwater County Show.
Redrow's housing development The Lakes is situated in a stunning location and enjoys views of the Blackwater Estuary. There are good road and rail links to London and the rest of the South East, making it the ideal choice for commuters seeking a quiet and picturesque retreat.
Properties at The Lakes include an impressive range of three, four and five-bedroom family homes currently priced from £269,995 to £500,000. To find out more, log on to Redrow.co.uk.
