Summer is heating up at Sweetgrass Golf Club As the summer sun and warm weather take hold in Michigan’s lush Upper Peninsula, the Island Resort & Casino – home to the much-anticipated Sweetgrass Golf Club – has announced the addition of summertime favorite Beach Boys and comedian/entertainer Joe Piscopo to a busy entertainment schedule.

The Beach Boys, with special guest – actor, musician, singer – John Stamos, will appear in the Island Showroom July 11 and 12. With summer hits such as California Girls, Good Vibrations, I Get Around and Kokomo, the Beach Boys are American icons. Tickets for the Beach Boys are $40.

Piscopo, a graduate of “Saturday Night Live,” will perform July 25 and 26. One of America’s most popular comedy concert attractions, Piscopo – who fills arenas and casino showrooms from coast-to-coast – tours with his own original Big Band tribute to Frank Sinatra. In addition to Sinatra, some of Piscopo’s more famous celebrity impersonations include Andy Rooney, David Letterman, Ronald Reagan and Barbara Streisand. Tickets for Joe Piscopo are $25. Tickets for all shows can be purchased at the casino.

“This is a summer unlike any other we’ve had at the Island Resort & Casino,” says General Manager Tom McChesney. “We’ve hosted national acts and packed the Island Showroom in the past, but introducing the beautiful golf course promises to make 2008 a season to remember.”

Owned and operated by the Hannahville Band of the Potawatomi Nation, the Island Resort & Casino will unveil its championship golf course Sweetgrass this summer. Upon opening, the Paul Albanese-designed Sweetgrass Golf Club will offer a playing experience unlike any other to the unspoiled beauty of the Upper Peninsula.

With multiple sets of tees to match any player’s ability, Sweetgrass stretches from 7,300 yards, which is sure to test the lowest handicap, to a beginner-/senior-friendly 5,000 yards. In addition to an island green, which jibed with the resort's name and fit within the parameters of the land's dictated design, Sweetgrass also features a pair of majestic waterfalls splitting the fairways of the ninth and 18th holes, bringing the round of golf to a breathtaking close and providing ample fodder for discussion, whether stopping at the turn for a refreshment or reminiscing over a gaming table in the resort’s Island Casino.

Golfers can be among the first to enjoy Sweetgrass Golf Club via the Perfect 4-Some, which starts at $229 and includes three rounds of championship golf and two nights at the Island Resort & Casino. This value-laden package allows golfers the opportunity to play nearby Greywalls and TimberStone golf clubs, as well.

Sweetgrass Golf Club is easily accessible via a pair of regional airports in Escanaba and Marquette.
