Youth Games Partnership reaches fourth year

Youth Games Partnership reaches fourth year For the fourth consecutive year, Redrow Homes is proudly sponsoring the Suffolk Youth Games, building on its track record of involvement in youth and community projects.

Around 1,000 children are expected to take part in the 2007 event, which is being held at Bury Leisure Centre in Bury St Edmunds on July 8th.

Tracy Brownlow, event manager of Suffolk Youth Games, said: “Suffolk Sport is delighted that their flagship youth sport event is to remain a partnership venture with principal sponsor Redrow Homes. In times when childhood obesity is increasing and the effects of a lack of physical activity are becoming more evident, it is particularly positive to see a prominent company prepared to make a serious commitment to youth sport within our county. Having supported the Games for the previous three years, Redrow Homes fully appreciates the benefits of high quality local sports training for young people and of course the opportunity for fun and competition on the day itself.”

The games will include nine competitive sports for both able bodied and disabled competitors, with seven local authorities competing in each event. Not only this, but there will also be ‘come and try’ demonstration sports that will allow people the chance to try a sport they may not have taken part in before.

In Suffolk, Redrow is currently building new apartments at the Forum in Bury St Edmunds and family homes at Oakside Park, in Kesgrave, and is busy planning a future development close to Ipswich town centre. Further afield it has recently launched new ventures in Essex, at Colchester and Heybridge.

George Cronin, managing director of Redrow Homes (Eastern), said: “The Suffolk Youth Games is something we are very proud to be involved in, not least because it gives young people from across the county the chance to unleash their sporting potential. It is also a great opportunity for them to develop a positive attitude to health and fitness, improve their self-esteem, and meet lots of new people and hopefully make some lasting friendships along the way.

“The Games were a great success in 2006 and this year promises to be even better. It will be wonderful to see so many youngsters competing again this year.”

Redrow is committed to helping young people through a number of initiatives, including apprenticeships, graduate training, mentoring in schools and the creation of a special health and safety activity pack for use by primary pupils.

Also available is the Redrow Learning Web, an on-line resource with modules for primary and secondary school pupils, which meets with National Curriculum requirements and has been accredited by the National Grid for Learning.
