Royal Clarence Marina hosts heritage sailing club race

Royal Clarence Marina, the regeneration project by Berkeley Homes and boasting the deepest marina on the South Coast, is now firmly established in the eyes of the boating fraternity as a key centre for sailing and boating events.

This Bank Holiday weekend, Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th August, it will provide the base for the Solent Old Gaffers' Annual Race and Rally.

The race, now in its 50th year, promises to be a very special event. As many as 50 of the traditional gaff-rigged sailing boats, ranging from 19 to 57 feet, will be racing from Cowes to Portsmouth, where the race will reach its finale at Gilkicker Point. Afterwards the boats will parade into Portsmouth Harbour, making a stunning spectacle for those gathered to watch. The Royal Clarence Marina is providing the mooring-up point for these lovely craft. A marquee ashore will be the centre for post-race refreshments and reflections.
