Apartment living combines space with convenience

9th October 2007 Print
Apartment living combines space with convenience More and more families are enjoying the space of a home in the suburbs with the convenience of apartment living close to the city centre. The beautiful ‘duplex’ properties at Collingwood Crescent, Gloucester, combine the best of both worlds. They span two floors, giving the interior appearance and space of a two-storey home while still retaining all of the practical benefits of apartment living.

But with only three remaining, one three-bedroom and two two-bedrooms, in this splendid renovation of a Georgian hospital, the opportunities to take advantage are fast running out.

The three-bedroom apartment has a total square footage which is roughly the same size as an average three-bedroom detached modern family home. All apartments also come complete with carpets, curtains and furniture so they are perfect for busy families to move straight into.

Sandra Hughes, sales manager for Redrow Homes (South West), said: “Duplex apartments really can offer families the high-end contemporary living and combine the dual benefits of period features with a modern specification.

“’Family flats are becoming increasingly popular because of the security, convenience and value for money they offer. The stunning apartments we have created within a refurbished Grade II listed Georgian property have all the ‘mod-cons’ a newly built apartment offers, such as energy efficiency, easy maintenance and even things like a greater number of plug sockets for appliances.

“However, unlike other new properties, Collingwood Crescent also has the added bonus of fantastic period features such as high ceilings, tall sash-style windows and an attractive Georgian exterior.”

The former Horton Road hospital has been converted into stunning one, two and three-bedroom apartments with new-build properties in its grounds. Redrow has preserved many original features, painstakingly numbering and recording the position of every original window frame in the building so they could be removed, repaired and replaced in exactly the same position.

Where features could not be repaired, exact copies of the original woodwork, such as six-inch deep, solid wood skirting boards and architraves have been fitted. The building is also capped with rare examples of cast iron roof tiles.

A typical duplex apartment comprises, at entry level, a spacious master bedroom with en-suite shower room, bedroom three, the main bathroom and a beautiful curved study. On the floor above, the property has a large open-plan living/dining room and kitchen, plus the second bedroom.

Sandra added: “With just three of these apartments left we have reduced the prices on the final properties for quick sale.

“A stunning three-bedroom duplex apartment is therefore currently available from £199,995 with carpets, curtains and furniture included. We may even consider part-exchange to help the right buyer move quickly without the pressure of selling their existing home.”

Those on the lookout for a great home in a development that has lots of character should hurry as Collingwood Crescent is fast-becoming the chosen postcode for apartment lovers in Gloucester, thanks to the marriage of history and heritage with contemporary interiors and modern specification.

Collingwood Crescent is ideally situated near to Gloucester city centre, within one mile of the bustling shopping streets of Northgate, Eastgate, Southgate and Westgate. The development also offers easy access to the M5 motorway and the city’s train station which provides links to a host of major cities.
