NextGeneration report reveals climate change leaders Local developer Crest Nicholson, which is currently building a number of developments across Gloucestershire including in Churchdown and Eastington in addition to a wide selection of attractive developments across the South West, has emerged as one of the UK’s leading housebuilders in terms of responding to the challenges represented by climate change.

According to a recent report published by NextGeneration, entitled ‘Developing homes for a changing climate’, Crest Nicholson has been ranked second place alongside some of the UK’s largest homebuilders in terms of addressing climate change issues through both adaptation and mitigation.

The NextGeneration analysis shows that many homebuilders have stepped up to the challenge of delivering on the government's targets to achieve more efficient, more sustainable housing. The new build residential sector has demonstrated a significant shift in terms of understanding and addressing climate change and is beginning to roll out good policies and practices in terms of how they build homes and operate their businesses.

For Crest Nicholson, many of these aims have been crystallised in its recent Sustainability Report, which represents a forward-looking strategy highlighting challenges and opportunities, and demonstrates how the company is tackling the problems of climate change and sustainability head on. The report uses exemplar projects to present the spectrum of very real issues currently facing the sector, and reports on Crest Nicholson’s performance and approach in responding to these demands. As well as outlining targets and key performance measures, the report includes an open discussion of the way in which the company aims to tackle some of the most important areas that require attention.

Crest Nicholson’s (South West) managing director, John Gatehouse, said: “As a developer of sustainable communities, responding to the challenges of climate change and urban renewal is an integral part of Crest Nicholson’s wider growth strategy and we ensure that sustainability remains at the very heart of our business model. In a slowing market, the ability to respond to sustainability issues is often put to the test, but to deliver the Government’s programme of zero-carbon housing by 2016 it is essential that we continue to innovate and improve the way in which we operate as market leaders.”

NextGeneration believes it is essential to ensure that the momentum shown to date continues and that developers maintain a long-term perspective to capitalise on the opportunities on the other side of the downturn. To achieve this, the industry and the government must work together, now more than ever. Government must offer the industry support to achieve the targets it has set for the sector and provide clarity on its position going forward.

Crest Nicholson currently has four developments across Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire: Churchdown, Dursley, Eastington and Tetbury.

The Churchdown development consists of 47 sensitively created properties, ranging from a two bedroom coach house, which is available for just £139,950 to a five bedroom gated property for £429,950.

Crest Nicholson Dursley development is a stylish collection of two, three and four bedroom homes in an attractive village-style setting nestling in the Cotswold countryside. Three bedroom homes are available at this development from £127,462 when bought under the EasyBuy scheme.
