Pupils get behind-the-scenes look at Churchdown

Pupils get behind-the-scenes look at Churchdown Over 90 pupils from Parton Manor Junior School in Churchdown have been visiting Crest Nicholson’s development in the village to find out more about how the environment can be protected and how homes are built without damaging the area.

The school is visiting the Churchdown development six times this month so that Year Three pupils can have the opportunity to don a hard hart and get their feet muddy, whilst learning about environmental issues in building and how to stay safe on and around construction sites.

The children got to see first hand the features which are often hidden in the build, including the use of specially designed bricks to allow bats access to the roofs of the garages to roost and nest, the particular care that Crest Nicholson has taken to ensure that as many trees as possible on site are not disturbed.

The dangers of playing on building sites were also highlighted to the pupils through a health and safety talk - an important message as many of the children live near to the development.

Crest Nicholson senior site manager, Lee Zeffiretti, who has organised the visits said: “It’s great to see the children so interested in the build process and the environment. Crest Nicholson is committed to building sustainable communities and the development at Churchdown is a great example of how new homes can be built without having a major impact on the surrounding areas by incorporating the features which the children are seeing on these visits, such as bat boxes and preserving the trees.”

The visits have also supported a larger project that the pupils have been working on looking at local areas and how they have changed over time.

Teacher at Parton Manor Junior School, Mrs Carol Halton, said: “The children were very enthusiastic about the visit and they were fascinated to hear about the bats! This visit really brought to life their project on local areas and how they have changed over time - a thoroughly enjoyable trip.”

Situated just off St John’s Avenue, the Churchdown development offers home buyers the escape and relaxation of village living but is within easy reach of the bustling cities of Cheltenham and Gloucester. There is a range of properties available, ranging from the two bedroom coach-house, which currently starts at £104,962 to £399,950 for a four bedroom family home.
