Designer does her homework for Tetbury show home A stylish new show home has just opened at The Hamptons, David Wilson Homes’ stunning development in the market town of Tetbury, and the interior design has been a “labour of love” for designer Sally Tyler.

Sally has a wealth of experience in interior design and runs her company, Sydney Yard Designs, from a studio in the village of Semington in Wiltshire.

“Tetbury is a very special place and I wanted to create a special interior for the show home, something that would reflect the character of the town,” she said.

“Before work began I spoke to local residents, to build a picture of what would be appropriate for a show home in this sought after area. I also took a good look around the locality, which is well known for its Cotswold stone houses and National Trust influence.”

Photographs taken during the research have also been incorporated into the show home where they can now been seen adorning walls.

Sally decided to use paints by Farrow & Ball, to recreate some of the colours used in the town stores, and wallpapers and fabrics from Sanderson and three top designers – Nina Campbell, Jane Churchill and Osborne & Little.

“I’ve used chalky colours, with lots of cream and beige and a striking terracotta red,” Sally continued. “The interior reflects the cottage style of the exterior, so it’s classic rather than contemporary, with oak furniture and lots of different fabrics and textures. I’ve also used big, bold lamps and nicely framed mirrors, so there’s a very cosy feel.”

The show home is a spacious four-bedroom house with a parking space outside. The ground floor offers a lounge, dining room, kitchen/breakfast room and cloakroom, and the second floor houses the bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are French windows to the garden from both the lounge and kitchen areas.

“The kitchen is fitted with oak cabinets and black granite work surfaces, and I’ve used blinds with a bold print for the windows,” Sally continued. “The lounge has a feature stone surround fireplace and the wall pictures are classic, in keeping with the style of the room. The master bedroom has mirror wardrobes, and glass lamps with cream shades create a restful atmosphere.

“As a special feature, I’ve used bold red wallpaper on one wall in each of the main rooms, with the accessories complementing the terracotta shade,” Sally added.

“Tetbury is close to Highgrove, the Prince of Wales’ residence, so I’ve scattered books written by Prince Charles around the house. I’ve also placed jam and other produce from the Highgrove estate in the kitchen.

“A lot of thought has gone into the interior design, and I hope visitors will enjoy the ambience I’ve tried to create in the show home. It really is a lovely residence, totally in keeping with the town and its surroundings,” she concluded.

The Hamptons offers a selection of beautifully designed houses set in an attractive cul-de-sac location in Hampton Road, Tetbury. Prices range from £270,000 to £274,950 for three-bedroom houses, and from £339,500 to £399,500 for four-bedroom properties. Part exchange is available to people moving up to a larger property.

Tetbury nestles in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds and, in the Middle Ages, was an important market town for the wool trade. The centre is still dominated by the pillared Market House built in 1655. The town is considered to be an 'architectural gem' as many of the wool merchants’ houses still look much as they did 300 years ago.

The town is well known for its close proximity to Highgrove House, the family home of The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall. Many of the local businesses bear the Prince of Wales’ feathers as a sign that they hold the Royal Warrant.

Highgrove House, the garden and nearby farmland were bought by the Duchy of Cornwall in 1980. Prince Charles chose to live on the estate because it offered easy access to London, Wales and the western counties, where the Duchy has most of its properties.
For almost 30 years, Prince Charles has spent much time and effort on turning the gardens and farm into flagship examples of the organic movement. Over 23,000 people visit Highgrove Gardens each year and the Highgrove shop on Tetbury High Street sells produce from the estate.

In addition to its royal connections, Tetbury boasts a wonderful variety of shops and several retailers have received national awards for excellence. There are over 25 antique shops in the town and a wide choice of tea shops, bistros, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Commuting links are good, with the A433 and A417 offering easy access to Cirencester, Gloucester and Cheltenham.
