Nis is new for Austrian

9th December 2006 Print
Austrian Airlines Austrian Airlines has added Nis in Serbia to its extensive Central and Eastern European network further extending its leadership in this dynamic economic region.

Austrian is already the leading Western carrier to Central & Eastern Europe and the addition of Nis will bring to 45 the destinations served within the region this winter.

Austrian will offer two flights a week, operated on Monday and Friday, between Vienna and Nis, within the scope of an existing code share agreement with JAT Airways. This is in addition to three daily flights between Vienna and Belgrade.

Nis is the second largest city in Serbia and one of the oldest, since ancient times it has been considered an important gateway between East and West connecting Asia Minor to Europe. Within Serbia, Nis is important as an industrial and commercial centre crucial to the redevelopment of the country as a whole.

The new Nis flights are timed to offer the best connections from London taking advantage of the minimum connection times at Vienna International Airport of just 25 minutes, the shortest in Europe. Connections are further eased by the fact that the maximum distance between gates at Vienna is 500 meters.

The incorporation of Nis into the schedule on 8 December 2006 comes just days before the introduction of Erbil (11.12.06) in the Autonomous Kurdish Region of North Iraq. Austrian will be the first Western carrier on both routes.
