Strong growth continues at Austrian

17th September 2007 Print
The Austrian Airlines Group carried 7.28 million passengers in the first eight months of 2007. In the short and medium-haul segment passenger numbers were up 8.3% on the previous year, this trend continued in August with further growth of 8%.

Passenger numbers fell in the long-haul segment over the same period but this was anticipated with the reduction in services. Traffic on the remaining long-haul routes continues to show strong demand with an increase in passenger load factor up to 82.3% for the year and a high of 84.3% for the month of August.

Chief Executive Officer Alfred Oetsch issued the following statement:

“The Austrian Airlines Group carried around 7.28 million passengers on its scheduled and charter services in the first eight months of the year, increasing the passenger load factor to 75.7%. Scheduled flights, which account for around 86% of our traffic, continue to grow strongly.

“The result is all the more pleasing because the strong growth in the short and medium-haul segment almost compensated for the fully effective and planned reduction in long-haul. The positive passenger load factor figures in all segments confirm that we are on the right course.”
