Emirates footballers win aviation cup
The Emirates Group Football team have compounded their standing among the world’s airlines with victory in the Lufthansa Cologne Aviation Cup. Their four-nil win in the six-a-side event in the German city of Cologne follows their resounding success in Malaysia in April when they lifted the prestigious World Inter-Airline 9-a-side Trophy.Hosted by Lufthansa Cologne Soccer Club, the Aviation Cup brought together 24 amateur teams from the aviation industry who faced off near Cologne’s city centre, on the eastern banks of the River Rhine.
The Emirates team, which is made up of staff of various nationalities, beat Italians Air One 1-0 in the quarter-finals. They went onto win 3-0 in the semis against IcelandAir [sic] to book their place in the finals where they thoroughly thrashed the German REWE team 4-0.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman & Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, said: “I heartily congratulate the players on their excellent performance. They have raised the profile of Emirates among the world’s airlines, proving that Emirates strives for excellence whether on the pitch, in the air or in an airport environment.”
