Walk in a winter wonderland at the Gaylord Opryland

27th October 2008 Print
With Christmas just around the corner the Gaylord Opryland’s transformation into a Winter Wonderland is already underway. Keeping with tradition the hotel will play host to magnificent hand carved ICE! sculptures and thousands of lights and baubles will decorate trees as part of the hotel’s 25th A Country Christmas celebration.

This year sees a return of ICE! featuring How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss. A unique attraction of ice sculptures created by 35 artisans Harbin, China who hand craft life size sculptures and slides out of 1.5 million pounds of ice. For nearly an entire month the team will transform the theatre into the colourful if not chilly Grinch’s lair.

Visitors are welcomed by the Hall of Trees a display of spectacularly decorated Christmas trees that are sponsored, decorated and filled with exciting prizes by businesses or celebrities.

Each tree is associated with a designated charity. Visitors can donate dollars to vote on their favourite trees while touring the hall and, throughout the season, the trees and their prizes are posted in an online auction for bidding.

Candy canes and gumdrops; chocolate drops and lollies; and not forgetting white icing as the glue make up Gingerbread Corner. A fun and interactive experience for all ages where Christmas elves teach guests how to decorate miniature gingerbread house ornaments and cookies that can be taken home as souvenirs.

The Radio City Christmas Spectacular, starring the world-famous Radio City Rockettes is back at the Grand Ole Opry House with dazzling costumes, brilliant choreography and favourite scenes, such as the "Living Nativity" and the "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers."

All of these Christmas delights are together this year at Gaylord Opryland’s new Winter Wonderland; a part of the A Country Christmas celebration which starts 22nd November 2008.
